Account of the martyrdom
According to the tradition, Trophimos and Sabbatios arrived in Antioch and publicly condemned pagan festivals held in honour of Apollo. They were arrested and brought before the governor. Both declared themselves Christians. Sabbatios died under scourging. Trophimos was then taken to a second governor, Dionysius Perennius, who ordered him torn with iron claws and thrown into prison.
A city councillor named Dorymedon visited Trophimos, witnessed his suffering and strengthened his own Christian faith. When this became known, Dorymedon was also tortured. Both men were later exposed to wild animals in the amphitheatre. The account states that a bear, a leopard and a lion refrained from attacking them. The martyrs were subsequently beheaded.
